URGENT Pee Dee WALL meeting on fracking and the latest information on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at 6:30 pm at the Hampton B. Allen County Library. It is very very urgent. We cannot stress it enough. INVITE YOUR NEIGHBORS AND FRIENDS. We also need to discuss adopting a chemical disclosure resolution that can potentially stop fracking from coming into Anson County permanently. You cannot afford to miss this meeting. We cannot stop this fracking tragedy without your help.

As you know for the past year and a half we have been fighting hard against fracking here in Anson Co. With your support and persistence, we together were able to strategize and energize a grassroots effort to convince our county commissioners to place a five year moratorium on fracking in Anson Co. That was a great victory, but it was also a temporary "fence". Early this summer our NC state legislature has made fracking legal statewide. It is projected that the state will be issuing permits for oil and gas companies to drill as early as next spring 2015. WHO WE ARE
Our Mission Statement: Pee Dee W.A.L.L. is a group of concerned citizens in Anson, Stanly, Richmond and Montgomery counties working to protect our green infrastructure by promoting policies that protect our sensitive habitats, natural resources and farmlands. At the same time, we want to preserve our water quality for our use as well as our neighbors downstream along the Pee Dee River including the Pee Dee Region of South Carolina.

WHAT YOU CAN DO
1/ Educate yourself on fracking. A good starting place
is Clean Water for North Carolina. This organization has been in the forefront against fracking in NC. Their newsletter will help keep you informed about fracking in North Carolina. Sign up for their newsletter at CleanWaterGetInvolved.
2/ Join an organization working to prevent fracking from impacting NC residents. Go to List of organizations working against fracking.
3/ Form a group and host a community meeting or a GASLAND screening to raise awareness! Environmental justice starts when you and a few other people meet and talk
about the problems you have in common, problems that make it difficult to live and work in your community.
4/ Explore resources about fracking.
5/ Attend County Commissioner meetings.

6/ Write a letter to the Editor of your local paper.
7/ Alert your friends and family; spread the word.
8/ Contact local authorities and volunteer to attend town meetings to make officials aware of this danger. Work to get a local resolution passed to ban fracking in your town.
9/ Help support our efforts. All donations are tax deductible.
10/ Sign our petition to ban fracking (link at right).
